She also wrote a bunch of subsequent interactions with the protagonist about how she likes the protagonist. Please don't be disgusted by a police writer who can continue to write about this female character's feelings for the protagonist without being convicted.

This book is more than just a story to me, it almost shows the "in-between state of the world" that I have been thinking about.
