Journey to the West: Inheriting the Great Sage’s Legacy and Battling Across the Three Realms

On Flower-Fruit Mountain, a little furry monkey stares blankly at the sky. “Shi Ling’er, daydreaming again?” The old monkey’s voice comes from behind him, full of the weariness of age. “Grandpa Sun! Does the Great Sage really exist? Why have I never seen him?” “The Great Sage… He attained Buddhahood before the Buddha long ago. He’s beyond the likes of you and me.” At this, Shi Ling’er falls into thought. Five hundred years have passed since the pilgrimage for the scriptures ended. The four companions each received their rewards and went their separate ways. Has this world really become a better place? Why does the Great Sage never come back to visit? Why are people in golden armor always patrolling all around us? Why must our monkey clan toil day after day? The world shouldn’t be like this. By chance, Shi Ling’er discovers a single hair in the forbidden Water Curtain Cave. Inside it, there is nothing but a cultivation manual and a weak voice. “Save me…” The voice seems to have been sealed away since time immemorial. Without hesitation, Shi Ling’er heads west. He will seek an answer. He will search for the truth. He will see whether the Buddhas filling the heavens are truly as virtuous as people praise them. He will find out whether the Great Sage Equal to Heaven of old is really in the Western Paradise!
