A Life as a Maid

Everyone knew that the palace maid Yun Shu was plain-looking and lowborn.

Though fortunate enough to serve at the emperor's side, she would surely be cast aside like worn-out shoes after only a few days.

But who could have imagined that in just three months, the emperor would elevate her to the lofty rank of Noble Consort, granting her the favor of the entire harem and making her the sole beloved of his inner chambers?

If any concubine in the harem dared offend Yun Shu, she would either be given a white silk sash to hang herself or thrown into the Cold Palace.

Even the empress herself, displeased by the emperor's devotion to Yun Shu, tried to persuade him with a few words. For three whole months, the emperor did not set foot in the empress's palace.

The ministers submitted memorials, calling Yun Shu a bewitching consort who would bring ruin to the country. They even threatened to die in protest in the court hall.

Ye Ling had the wooden pillars replaced with stone ones, then looked down coldly at the ministers threatening to die. "Which of you still wishes to impeach my beloved consort?"

Yun Shu had gone to great lengths to enter the palace and avenge her family's slaughter, never expecting to accidentally ensnare that amorous, self-important emperor.

The young, handsome ruler drew her gently into his arms. "My beloved, I will avenge you!"
