Hunted East and West: The 19-Day Flight of Zhang Jun, the Demon

People will not forget September 1, 2000, at 6:06 p.m., when a shocking armed robbery took place in Changde, Hunan. Four gunmen, in broad daylight and before countless witnesses, killed seven people and wounded five. Senior criminal investigation experts from the Ministry of Public Security identified it as the most serious criminal case since the founding of the People's Republic. Hunan police lured the snake from its hole, while Chongqing police stood ready to strike. Today, the kingpin Zhang Jun and the core members of his gang have long been branded with infamy by the law, and several of his mistresses who followed him have also received their just punishment. Yet the wisdom, courage, selflessness, and fearless dedication of the Hunan and Chongqing police live on in the history books, an enduring monument that inspires those who follow and spurs future generations onward.
