Original Sin

My father once warned me: if I joined the police, I must serve my country. In life, be a hero among men; in death, be a hero among ghosts. If I did not join the police, I should not listen to others' misleading words. Follow my heart, walk the righteous path, and keep my conscience clear. A careless deed can bring worry to the whole world; an unguarded thought can leave trouble for a hundred years. When passions run high, reason is easily clouded, and words and actions can go too far. That does no one any good. I didn't understand what those words meant back then. It wasn't until I witnessed the ugliness of human nature and criminals who had lost all humanity that I understood. “My name is Gu Jie. I may not be a qualified undercover agent, but I am an excellent hunter.”
