Hong Kong Cinema: Starting with Police Story

A civilization that has mastered the secrets of the universe discovers us. Civilization? They have worked through an unknown number of cosmic eras just to earn the right to call themselves civilized. Their leaders decide to expose these creatures who arrogantly call themselves civilized through a livestreamed experiment, to see whether beings who consider themselves civilized can truly measure up to them. “Deep Space, what you’re doing is no help to the experiment. You’re even damaging the test subject.” “But it lives in a lie.” “Deep Space, it lives in a lie, but it doesn’t realize that, does it?” “Observer 020013, have you ever felt, even for a moment, that we too might be living in a lie just like it? Have you?” Li Yan, a recent graduate, receives a letter from his uncle and decides to return to the paper effigy shop. That very day, his soul enters the world of a movie. He initially thinks it’s a dream, but gradually discovers that this world is real. After traveling back and forth between reality and the world of movies time and again, Li Yan becomes absorbed in it... until the day that changes everything arrives, and he learns that he isn’t the only chosen one. With the door to choice right before him, a voice asks in a bewitching tone: “Li Yan, once you walk through that door, you’ll lose everything. Why not stay here forever, remain young, and enjoy every kind of life instead~” “That’s true. Why not?”
