Turbulence in Yuezhou

Yuezhou's Changing Fortunes is a contemporary inspirational novel that portrays, in sweeping detail, the changes in Yuezhou, Donghai Province, from the mid-to-late 1970s through the early twenty-first century. Through the shifting fortunes of ordinary people, it recounts the profound changes the Reform and Opening Up brought to Chinese society. Although rapid development has reshaped some values, kindness and good deeds remain the simple aspirations of ordinary people.

A sudden turn of events sent Zhao Xiangjun, Mo Zhangyang, and Lin Jiefang fleeing in different directions. Zhao Xiangjun escaped to Hong Kong, where his sense of justice and loyalty earned him the favor and support of a benefactor. With that benefactor's help, he eventually returned to China to invest. He later joined forces with Lin Jiefang, who had since changed his name to Lin Rixin, and Mo Lixin, the son of Mo Zhangyang. Despite many twists and turns, they ultimately succeeded, and their company, Juntian Holdings, went public.

Dai Liren and Zhang Aiwu were prominent members of Yuezhou's factional cliques. After the Gang of Four was brought down, both faced a reckoning. Dai Liren was stripped of his position and demoted to warehouse keeper. His wife was also left disabled by a severe brain injury, and their lives hit rock bottom. But he refused to give in to fate. To treat his beloved wife, he studied traditional Chinese medicine diligently and eventually became accomplished in it. Zhang Aiwu, meanwhile, used her youthful body to secure powerful backing and later became Yuezhou's vice mayor in charge of urban development. In the end, her greed brought about her own downfall.
