Day and Night: The Mysterious Case Files

Hello, my name is Bai Yexing. I didn't cry when I was born. I was gifted from a young age, knowing astronomy above and geography below. I was a true child prodigy. Then, when I was eight, I suddenly started crying for no reason in the middle of the night. Soon after, I came down with a strange illness. The doctors were helpless, and my parents were devastated. They took me back to our hometown, hoping the ancestors of the Bai family would protect me. But when they brought me to the Bai ancestral grounds and prayed for their blessing, a strange wind swept through, toppling every ancestral tablet. My aging father shakily set the tablets upright, then carried me home. From that day on, my parents stayed by my side every day, though in secret they'd already begun preparing for my funeral. Then one afternoon, a wandering Taoist came to our home. When he saw me, he was astonished by my extraordinary nature. “This child is destined for an extraordinary life. It is fate that we meet today, so I shall defy heaven and change your destiny, forging a bond of good fortune!” The Taoist stroked my forehead, and his hair turned white in an instant. “Blessed indeed! Blessed indeed!” The old Taoist left, trembling. After that, my illness was cured, proving the old Taoist right: my life truly was extraordinary.
