Day and Night: The Mysterious Case Files

Hello, my name is Bai Yexing. I didn’t cry when I was born. I was gifted from a young age, knowing astronomy above and geography below. I was a true child prodigy. Then, when I was eight, I started sobbing for no reason one night, and inexplicably came down with a serious illness. The doctors were helpless, and my parents were in despair. They took me back to our ancestral home, hoping the ancestors of the Bai family would protect me. But supposedly, when my parents brought me to the Bai family’s ancestral grounds to pray for their protection, a gust of evil wind swept through and toppled every ancestral tablet. My elderly father shakily set the tablets upright and carried me home. From that day on, my parents stayed by my side every day, while secretly making preparations for my funeral. Then one afternoon, a wandering Taoist priest came to our house. The moment he saw me, he was astounded. “This child is destined for an extraordinary life. Meeting you today is fate, so I’ll defy heaven and change your destiny, forming a bond of goodwill!” The Taoist priest brushed my forehead with his hand, and in an instant his hair turned white. “Mercy! Mercy!” The old priest shuffled away. After that, I recovered from my illness, proving the old priest’s words true: my life really was extraordinary.
