The Great Sage Equal to Heaven: Turning Journey to the West Upside Down

On the journey west, Wukong gradually uncovers the conspiracy behind the pilgrimage to obtain the scriptures. Tathagata schemes to kill him and replace him on the journey with the Six-Eared Macaque, using a double to take his place. Protected by a wisp of primordial purple energy, Wukong’s primordial spirit miraculously survives. He seizes a new body and is reborn on Flower-Fruit Mountain, where he wages an all-out struggle against the Celestial Court and the Buddhist sect. There can be no coexistence between them! No transmigration, no contrived melodrama: the same mythological figures, but a different Journey to the West.
