Siheyuan: Silly Zhu Enjoys the Good Life After Being Reborn

On a snowy night on the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, sixty-five-year-old He Yuzhu froze to death in a corner of the rear house in the courtyard.

He had given everything he had his whole life. He poured his wages, ration coupons, and house into filling the Jia family's bottomless pit, served as Qin Huairu's support for her entire life, played Banggeng's fool of a father for half of his, and spent his life bound by First Uncle Yi Zhonghai's promise of being cared for in old age.

In the end, he was left homeless and froze to death on a bitter night. Only before he died did he open the letter Qin Huairu had kept from him for half his life. He saw the regret in Lou Xiao'e's departure all those years ago, and his heart broke with remorse.

When he opened his eyes again, he was back in 1976, before any of the tragedies had taken shape.

This time, Silly Zhu was awake.

Qin Huairu comes over with red-rimmed eyes to ask for a lunchbox? Sorry, the money for the state-owned canteen meals is settled between us. Whether your three kids starve to death is none of my business.

Jia Zhangshi tries to dump the blame on him and make him clean up after Banggeng's theft? He fires right back: if the kid steals, send him to the neighborhood office. Don't expect him to be your sucker.

Yi Zhonghai tries to guilt-trip him with talk of neighborly duty and morality? He exposes Yi's scheme to rely on him in old age because he has no children, then tells him to find someone else while he still can.

Xu Damao slanders him and makes trouble behind his back? He turns the tables and makes Xu Damao fall into his own trap, disgraced.

In his previous life, he spent his whole life living for everyone in the courtyard, only to become a fool everyone could bully.
