The Ambitious Director

Back in 2011, Yin Zixiong transmigrated into the body of a directing student in the 2008 class at a film academy. With an unprecedented boom in Chinese cinema just around the corner, he wanted to carve out a place for himself. No System, no all-around entertainment skills. He couldn’t sing, trade stocks, or remember lottery numbers. Luckily, before transmigrating, he’d watched a movie every day while working as a director. So he’d remake movies and keep directing. Would he copy every box-office hit, comedy, and classic Chinese film? No. He would only remake foreign films, never Chinese ones. There were so few Chinese films worth showing off. How could he bear to copy them? Was box-office success and winning awards his ultimate goal? No. What he wanted was a chance to compete with Hollywood on equal terms. Was that goal unrealistic? No matter. He’d start in the broader Confucian cultural sphere… And what about all the goddesses? Yin Zixiong wasn’t interested in collecting them. He just wanted to be friends with them!
