Plot-Driven Reads, No Hand-Holding: 1. Sci-Fi

A mix of hard and soft sci-fi, including both civilization-building stories and tales of the protagonist's growth. These are sci-fi novels I think suit my tastes: they have fresh settings, relatively complete frameworks, and are enjoyable to read. The male and female leads shouldn't be total airheads, and they should have some brains.
