Fallen Street Theory

The summer we left, huge red words "Demolish" were painted on every wall, and the wet paint flowed down like blood. Every day, vendors pack their bags and leave, and some hold up banners to demonstrate, with "Protest!" Written brighter than the word "Demolish" on them. I haven't been back for two years. The former Degenerate Street is now a green road that is quiet enough and boring enough. I suddenly found that I missed this place so much, missed its prosperity and hustle and bustle; missed its crampedness and mud, just like the well-equipped small commercial streets in all university towns. We shouted at the top of our lungs in the KTV; we laughed and cursed at the barbecue stall, and the sky was bright; we squandered our youth and wasted time in the rental house of Huyan's family - like all college students, we relied on our youth and "degenerated" in the good times. In the years after leaving the Street of Depravity, we no longer fall or fly. We have lost hell and heaven. We are just a group of mortals living on the ground.
