Eighty a Job, What Am I Risking My Life For?

My dad said that in the Age of Declining Dharma, evil spirits had vanished.

I believed him. I studied finance at university and picked up odd jobs at night, chasing ninth-rank wandering spirits out from under people's beds. Eighty yuan a job, enough for a few meals of braised chicken and rice.

Until one day, a ninth-rank wandering spirit spoke to me.

"Your dad sealed me beneath the foundation of an old house in the south of the city twenty years ago. He said evil spirits should vanish, and spirit wardens should vanish too, so we'd each take a step back. Now wandering spirits are everywhere, and nobody's dealing with them. Does your dad still stand by what he said?"

My name is Shen Zhen. The Zhen in my name means to suppress evil. When I opened my mirror, my spirit energy fell short of even the first realm, and I failed to open my yin eye. I'm the last descendant of a spirit-warden family, scraping by on odd jobs.
