Night Rain in Bianliang

The Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun, a homeland trampled into ruin by Khitan iron hooves for fifty years.

The young Yang Yi was born in Youzhou and grew up among the common folk. He was an ordinary boy, content to make a living by tending his father’s cloth shop. But an ancestral manual called The Record of the Broken Army and a map of Yanyun hidden deep within a scroll thrust him and his mother onto a desperate flight south overnight.

The Golden Coffer Alliance at the founding of the dynasty, the age-old mystery of the candlelight and the axe, and a turbulent martial world amid the wars between Liao and Song: a nobody who wanted no part of the game is swept into the deepest whirlpools of both court and jianghu. From a street-fighting commoner to a great hero of his age; from the blood and fire of Yanyun to the rainy nights of Bianliang. Four women and four unforgettable romances leave four different marks on his heart. Yet what he always remembers is his father’s parting words, “Never forget Yanyun,” and the promise that he would “come back sooner or later.”

Warhorses and clashing swords, vengeance and exhilaration; court intrigue and affairs of the heart. This is a tale of the heroes of Great Song, beneath Yanyun’s skies and in Bianliang’s rainy nights.
