Arcane Modeler

Magic was bestowed by the gods, spells could not be altered, and ancient texts were beyond question.

That was the common wisdom accepted by every mage in Aetherland.

Until Alan saw the cracks within a spell during a trial that had been rigged.

Fire was not sacred, and runes were not divine revelations.

Every spell was made up of structures that could be taken apart, tested, replaced, and recombined.

Others inherited spells. He corrected them.

Others fought over forbidden spells. He compiled them.

Later, Alan established the first standardized model that allowed ordinary people to learn magic.

At last, the temple realized that the truly dangerous thing had never been any one forbidden spell.

It was ordinary people beginning to understand magic.
