Shanhai Bureau: Taming Beasts Through Commentary

Beastly anomalies aren't monsters. They're rules.

Taotie devours concepts, Qiongqi inverts good and evil, and Zhulong governs life and death.

The Classic of Mountains and Seas isn't mythology. It's a disaster survival manual. Every beast has a rule, and every rule hides a loophole in its wording.

Shen Zhu transmigrates to the Shanhai Bureau and becomes its most useless annotator.

Others subdue beasts with brute force. He does it by reading books.

“The original text says, ‘Eat it and you will run well.’ It can't run on its own.”

“Lushu is protecting pregnant women, not harming them.”

“Qiongqi only eats loyal subjects. Pretend to be a traitor, and it won't dare take a bite.”

Read one line correctly, and you tame a beast. Misread a single word, and you're doomed.

But with every annotation, another Mountain Classic marking appears on his body.

When all seven markings are complete, the annotator turns into a beast.

Old Chen has held it back for thirty years, but he can't hold it back any longer.

“You have only seven years.”

His enemy isn't the beasts.

It's himself, destined to become one.
