"I want some comp days and overtime pay, a first-rate salary raise notice, and all the employee benefits, from an aether spa to artifact care... And finally, pour on a generous allowance for hazardous work."

"That would take quite a few daydreams, sir."

"I know. Also, help me claim reimbursement for the blood money I paid to survive this time reset."

Bai Mo slammed his hand cannon onto the table, his expression utterly blank. Across from him sat his landlady, roommate, former stepsister, and current direct superior, sitting ramrod straight with a look caught between joy and sorrow.

"The universe is about to be destroyed. What's the point of asking for all this now?"

"Uh, boss, here's the thing," Bai Mo said tactfully. "The end of the world may take our lives, but it doesn't take away our everyday lives."

He raised his wrist to check the time: in an hour, the main worldline would freeze forever; in forty minutes, the Disaster Response Office would issue a collective apology; in half an hour, potato chips at the supermarket would go on sale for half price.

The latest civilization-preservation plan was on his computer, with its progress stuck at "New Folder."

Bai Mo was running out of time.
