Sixty Years of a Chinese Lawyer

For forty years, he has spoken for countless people, but it took him most of his life to learn to speak the truth for himself. From 1967 to 2026, from the county legal advisory office to a large-scale foreign-related law firm, Cheng Liyan witnessed the most ups and downs of China's lawyer system for the past sixty years. The gunshots of severe crackdowns, the tears of vindication, the waves falling into the sea, the impact of joining the world... Every turn of the times hit his case file. He has seen "the court's opinion" in the judgment and the client's "thank you"; he has walked in the dark in the river of power, and almost lost himself in the abyss of human nature. Family, love, and friendship are three kinds of love debt that accompany him throughout his life; fairness, justice, and rules are three words that he rewrote four times in his heart. This is not a heroic legend, but a record of an ordinary person's tug-of-war with the times under the scales. When the last court is over, can the secret in the tin box allow him to finally say: "I was wrong"? Open this book and you will see how darkness and light have been flowing in the same river for sixty years.
