A Bootleg Guide to Ascension

Lin Mo transmigrates into the cultivation world and binds himself to a “Ascension System.” He thinks he’s gotten a dream start, but it turns out to be a knockoff The beginner’s gift pack gives him nothing, his only attack skill, “Little Fireball,” breaks down after one test, and his reward points are constantly being frozen. His daily quests are always things like going down the mountain to buy liquor, pay off debts, or run errands. And at his side is an even less reliable buddy, wearing a pair of flip-flops and smacking the System’s core formation. Other people cultivate: ride swords, refine pills, attain the Dao, and ascend. Lin Mo cultivates: exploit bugs, dodge tribulations, and battle a screen full of garbled pop-up windows. Then, deep in a magical realm, he finds half a page of scrap paper bearing an unfinished line: “Don’t believe what the System says about ascension. That isn’t…” Lin Mo: ??? So the master I bowed to, the Dao I cultivated, and the lightning I endured were all knockoffs from the start? A scam of a System, a pair of unlucky brothers, and a road to ascension that seems to bear the watermark “Counterfeiting Will Be Prosecuted.” In such a cutthroat cultivation world, can a knockoff really ascend?
