Shi Dangdang

On the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the first year of Xuanhe under the Northern Song, Shi Dachui, a stonemason at the foot of Mount Tai, did something: he tore a page from the Lord of Mount Tai's Book of Life and Death. That page recorded the death dates of 1,700 people beneath Mount Tai. The first name on it was his son, Shi Qian. Whoever tore out the page would be punished by having to fill in the book, using their own blood and bones as ink to copy all 1,700 names back into it, one by one. They would have to keep writing until every name was copied. If they failed to finish, they would write forever. Someone tore the missing page into three pieces and hid them at the most perilous road junctions in three places across the land of Qilu. Six years later, Shi Qian set out with half a Stone Guardian left behind by his father on his back. He would travel across Mount Tai, Mount Lao, Penglai, the Langya Terrace, the Qi Great Wall, Qingzhou, Linzi, Qufu, and Dongping Lake to find all three pieces and nail them back into the book. If he put them back, he would be the first to die. If he didn't, all 1,700 people would die at the same hour. And the person who had followed him all this time, the one who "couldn't remember faces," was waiting for him to find all the pieces. That person only wanted to write their own name in the book.
