The Mighty Divine General

Get the story right, and the gods live; get it wrong, and the gods eat people.

On the first day after returning to his hometown, Zheng Yu came across the pagoda relic at his family home, which no one had offered incense to for years. An online celebrity had mistaken it for the "God of Wealth" and was posing with it on a livestream. Zheng Yu went over and moved the relic back to its proper place. In those three seconds, the livestream froze, and the comments were all asking: Had there just been another person in the shot? But in the official replay, not a single frame showed one.

From that day on, he could see. At a glance, he could tell what any god had originally looked like. If people got a god's story wrong, the mistaken part would crack open right before his eyes. The trouble was, every time he used this ability, he lost a little of his memory.

His grandfather was so ill he could no longer recognize people. He left behind a handwritten manual, with just one line on the first page: The first one, wait for you to come back and write it.

In the procession carrying the gods, he was the only shoulder left to support the pagoda relic. And the one resting on his shoulder had long since forgotten who he was.
