Stars in the Long Night

The world turns without end, and ordinary life repeats itself day after day. This is not a figure of speech, but an objective fact. Most living beings are cast into false worlds, where they go through the cycle of life and death again and again. Yet all of it is nothing but an illusory dream, including life and death. The real world has already shattered. Only by sinking into the false can one still hope to survive. Yet a small handful of people possess special abilities that let them stay lucid and travel between the false and the real. These people, known as the Fated, face a problem set by the Creator: should the world bear its suffering and press on toward tomorrow, or embrace tranquility and remain in yesterday? Rebirth, or destruction? These two obsessions clash head-on, not only among the Fated. It seems that everything in the world has two opposing sides, locked in conflict. Nightmares are the night’s tales, while the long night is the night’s flesh. Dawn is the first cry of light, while dusk is its final curtain. Dreamweavers write the dreams, while fleeting lives pass through them. Auspicious fortune is a blessing bestowed by heaven, while simple joys are good fortune held close. Time leaves its traces in the years, while mountains and rivers form the bedrock of space.
