The Strange Book of the Sui and Tang Dynasties

At the end of the Eastern Han dynasty, Zhang Jue, the Great Virtuous Teacher, took the Taiping Scripture to his grave. A century later, Emperor Yang of Sui, Yang Guang, unearthed it. In an instant, demons from beyond the world awoke, tempting living beings to offer sacrifices in exchange for immortality. The ancient god Yayu broke free of its seal. To save those who had been sacrificed, the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats of Mount Ling died and entered nirvana. Heaven even sent the Great Emperor Ziwei of the North Pole to be reborn as Li Shimin and quell the demons. The transition from Sui to Tang was drenched in blood. Could Heaven shoulder the responsibility of saving all living beings?
