Xiang Wenqing came from a down-on-its-luck martial family in the State of Yan. He earned merit through his own skill and a campaign to put down a rebellion on the northern frontier. He thought he was about to rise quickly through the ranks and reach the pinnacle of his life. Instead, he was appointed an "Exorcism Inspector" and dispatched to a remote border prefecture with a single order to deal with supernatural disturbances.
