The Paladin’s Posthumous Letter

After being reincarnated in another world, Peter was destined to die. Fortunately, a gift from Earth gave him a chance to catch his breath. Whenever he died in someone else's place, Peter could refuse the Goddess of Death's invitation and snatch a few little gifts from her embrace. So while studying the path of knighthood, he kept adding new chapters to his own obituary. An apprentice nun prepared him for the trials to become a knight. An adventurer invited him to explore a dungeon together. The Church believed that Peter's repeated self-sacrifice for others proved he possessed the pure heart needed to serve as a holy knight. The Adventurers' Guild considered Peter a born adventurer. To him, the perilous places that made others hesitate were simply treasure troves waiting to be explored. Even the most outstanding holy knights believed Peter's noble deeds, laying down his life again and again to save others, deserved their praise. The holy knights thought that if the day ever came for the pope to be replaced, perhaps they would choose Peter. “I choose Peter. He's the people's choice!” The gods' game of chess had begun, and the old order was splintering amid chaos and upheaval. Ancient gods and fearsome monsters ruled the lands beyond civilization, while sinister liches and corrupted mages twisted the truth. Yet the greedy continued to gnaw away at the world's peace from the shadows. Only the knights challenged the final great task, trying to bring the spark of hope back to humankind. When a certain knight's obituary began to be written once more, this world on the brink of collapse seemed to have gained just a little more hope.
