Kyushu Long Night Ferry

When a northern army town abandoned its defense, young ferryman Lu Tingzhou cut off the cable that his father relied on to survive in order to save a boatload of refugees. Afterwards, he went south with a list of the dead in an attempt to collect food and compensation for these people, but found that the entire retreat was not a defeat: the court was using food records, military orders, and waterways to decide which places were worth living and which people could be written off as dead. He got acquainted with a medical apprentice who insisted on giving the same medicine to the enemy's and our wounded soldiers, a grain officer who believed that precise calculations could reduce sacrifices, and a group of people who could no longer go home. In order to save the people in front of them, they kept making choices that could be explained but could not be undone; in the end, the friend who had rescued the refugees together became the one who made the sacrifice list, and the ferryman who only wanted to prove that his father did not escape had to finally write his sins into the list.
