The Upper Volume of the Doucai Garden

Devoting a lifetime to one book, I write of the past, sleepless in the middle of the night.

Through wind and flowers, snow and moon, clouds and rain, this journey leads to the Red Chamber, yet nothing compares.

Dream of the Red Chamber is a monumental realist novel in three parts: upper, middle, and lower. A tribute to Dream of the Red Chamber, it is the work of a lifetime, spanning 3.6 million words and offering a sweeping portrait of forty years of change before and after Reform and Opening Up.
