The story takes place in a world parallel to the current world. On the surface, this is the modern city we are familiar with - high-rise buildings, busy traffic, and people living a nine-to-five life. But in the darkness invisible to ordinary people, the underworld really exists. Evil ghosts can walk in the world, and there is a group of people called "spirit-eliminating people" who maintain the fragile balance between the two worlds in the dark. At the heart of it all begins with a rebellion that takes place in the underworld. Some time before the story begins, a group of "soul people" inside the underworld - that is, ghosts and dead souls with spiritual abilities - jointly launched a large-scale rebellion. They are dissatisfied with the order of the underworld for thousands of years and long to return to the human world and reoccupy the world of the living. The rebels successfully opened the "Returning Soul Gate" to the human world, released a large number of evil ghosts imprisoned in the depths, and allowed many advanced soul cultivators to escape to the human world together. Although the underworld finally quelled the rebellion, the cost was heavy: a large number of ghosts were injured and killed, the Resurrection Gate was severely damaged, and the evil ghosts and soul cultivators who fled to the human world have spread in the darkness of various cities and began to pose a threat to the world of the living. When the underworld was unable to pursue the fugitives on its own, the King of Hell made an unprecedented decision - to recruit a group of living souls wandering on the edge of life and death and train them into "spirit-killers" to replace the underworld in the human world to hunt down the escaped ghosts.
