Summer Eaten by Letters

Cicadas buzz noisily through the late summer.

Lu Yu, a high school sophomore, often hides alone on the rooftop of the classroom building with his sketchbook.

By chance, he finds an old, quaint bronze bookmark and slips it into his drawing book.

A tiny old object sets in motion a bond both burning and illusory.

The bookmark was a keepsake of Su Zhiyao's, the only memento her late grandmother left her.

She is bright and smiling in public, but beneath her smile lies a loneliness no one knows about.

The keepsake passes into Lu Yu's hands through a twist of fate, and a strange connection is born.

The two cannot read each other's minds, but they can see the emotions the other tries to hide.

Lu Yu understands the weariness beneath her smile, while Su Zhiyao sees the clumsy tenderness beneath his cold exterior.

But this ability is no gift. It is a cruel curse.

The more they rely on this connection, the more their memories slip away.

Lu Yu loses fragments of his past as an artist, while Su Zhiyao's memories of her grandmother slowly fade.

The two are repeatedly tormented by their surging feelings.

Is their love genuine, or is it an illusion created by the bookmark?

Should they keep paying the price of having their memories devoured,

or give up the magic and get to know each other as ordinary people?

High summer is nearing its end.

In the end, they will understand that true love never needs magic to speak for it.
