I knelt on the balcony and kowtowed to Mount Taibai: "Please, save my mother." The stone felt warm in my palm. I have been walking for thirty years since then - from the Qinling Mountains to the Yellow River, from Dongting to Kunlun, and all the way west along the marks left by her. I found a strand of red cloth under my mother's pillow. She came to see her. Finally, I found the cave deep in Kunlun. There she sat, reduced to a withered skeleton. I even learned her name last.
