Thirty-Eight Below Zero

Thirty-eight degrees below zero is the line.

On this side of the line is the cargo; on the other side are the rules.

Na Qin had driven refrigerated trucks for three years without incident. Then, in an old cold-storage warehouse in Suifenhe, he found a bone ring marked with thirty-eight grooves.

Once the temperature in the container drops below minus thirty-eight degrees, don't shut the door too quickly. Don't open it a second time within three minutes. And don't look at the temperature-control display at three in the morning.

He broke the rules. Frost formed on his fingers, and he couldn't wipe it off.

Something appeared in the passenger seat. It could write, count, and measure his hand.

The bone ring can shield him from disaster. Each groove trades for one life, and he has only thirty-six left.
