Six Strings in the Night

The six children at the Old City Welfare Home had no surnames and nowhere to turn. Yet on one rainy night, they all heard the sound of a “string” at the same time. It was a sign that their spiritual meridians had awakened, and the beginning of darkness setting its sights on them. Xiao Ye was the first to draw his blade. Born like iron tempered in fire, he was cold, hard, and difficult to approach, yet he kept all his tenderness for the five people behind him. Shen Xing saw it most clearly. The ability called “the String” coiled around Xiao Ye's fingertips: it could read the flow of a situation, draw the threads together, and bind the scattered group into a single drawn blade. Then there were Lin Luxi, Zhou Che, Tang Hui, and Jiang Wei. They could each have fled on their own, but on the night they came of age, they made a pact: The Six Nightstrings must play together, or the tune is incomplete. The Special Affairs Bureau's files held no record of their names, yet their blood stained every shadow in the city. Mutated beasts tore open space, ancient martial clans bowed their heads, and the sealed “Sound Beyond the Strings” was slowly awakening inch by inch. All they had to do was bring back everyone who needed saving before dawn.
