Heavenly Court: Nine to Five, and the Jade Emperor Begs Me Not to Clock Out

After the Investiture of the Gods ended, the immortals took their appointed places. The entire Three Realms believed the Heavenly Court would now hold the Primordial Wilderness in awe. But when Zhou An entered the Heavenly Court, he discovered that the place was already in utter chaos. The Hall of Miraculous Mist leaked, bricks were falling from the Southern Heavenly Gate, the Imperial Stables were piled high with horse manure, hundreds of thousands of red strings in the Hall of the Matchmaker were tangled into hopeless knots, and a lightning test in the Department of Thunder had blasted eight holes in the Hall of the God of Wealth. Yet every immortal only cared about their own divine duties, and no one wanted to deal with these trivial chores. And so the Heavenly Court gained its first general affairs immortal clerk. Zhou An. After binding himself to a nine-to-five clock-in System, Zhou An went to work on time and clocked out on schedule every day. Thoroughly clean the Hall of Miraculous Mist once, and receive the Nine-Turn Profound Art as a reward. Repair a section of the Southern Heavenly Gate, and receive the Golden Light of Earth Travel. Tend a peach orchard, and receive the Cosmos in His Sleeve. Collect a batch of scrapped divine weapons, and receive the innate art of weapon forging. As Zhou An took on more and more responsibilities, his cultivation, divine powers, abode, salary, and authority in the Heavenly Court all soared. The immortals who had once looked down on him gradually began lining up to submit repair requests. Nezha: “Manager Zhou, my Wind-Fire Wheels are smoking again!” The Matchmaker: “High Immortal Zhou, the red strings are jammed again!” Laozi: “Young friend, it seems my alchemy furnace is leaking fire.” The Jade Emperor: “My dear subject, one corner of the Hall of Miraculous Mist has collapsed.” Zhou An glanced at the sun, which had already set. “Work’s over.” In an instant, the entire Heavenly Court panicked.
