Worship Begets Godhood: A Nine-Tailed Fox Demands to Serve Me

Six hundred years have passed since the gods and Buddhas fell, yet incense offerings still burn throughout the world. But those seated high on divine altars and enjoying the offerings are no longer the gods of old. Lu was a graduate student at an agricultural college in his previous life, and wrote historical farming novels on the side. He died in a car crash while saving someone. When he opened his eyes again, he had become a mountain god in a dilapidated temple in Xiyan County, Lanxu Kingdom. His statue was cracked, and the incense offerings were about to cease. The forty-seven households of Huaiyin Village under his care would rather worship the “all-granting” Lady Bai in the neighboring village than offer him even a single stick of incense. That is, until a stormy night during Awakening of Insects, when a down-and-out scholar stumbled into his temple. Close behind him came a little fox demon who had learned how to seduce men from erotic stories, but didn’t even understand what it meant to warm someone’s bed. That night, the majesty of a true god, absent for hundreds of years, descended upon the mortal world once more. [Perform a miracle before witnesses to unlock an Incense Treasure Chest!] [Protect a village’s people to receive offerings from a hundred households!] [Slay a changeling ghost, cow the mountain lord, and expand your divine territory!] As one demonic shrine after another was torn down and lost divine offices returned to the orthodox order, the people finally realized: The one who had awakened in that ramshackle temple in the wilderness might be the last true god in the mortal world.
