Adrian West leads the transmission and establishes a consciousness uploading facility in the orbit of Jupiter. Maurice Callan emerges from house arrest to lead the Remain faction and rebuild the Crimson League. Elias Chen leads the Symbiosis Faction, trying to use the Crystal Tide Network to build a new social form. The differences cannot be reconciled, and a civil war breaks out in Earth's orbit. Callan chose to surrender control of the Crimson Sanctuary during his trial and accept federal prison terms. But Novak - Kahlan's second-in-command - escaped and is lurking in the outer solar system. He believes that only by destroying the Crystal Tide Network can humanity be saved.
