Six Weeks of Siege

In the winter of 1937, Jinling City was destroyed. Twenty-eight-year-old bookstore owner Chen Shouren failed to catch the last bus to take his wife and daughter out of the city. With the city closed under artillery fire, he was trapped in the cellar of his bookstore. Together with his neighbor Lao Zhou, the widow Aunt Zhang and the fifteen-year-old girl Aying, he began a forty-two days of survival. He saw blood stains in the crack of the door, heard screams in the darkness, and picked up a pen in the ruins. When the whole city was silent, he chose to record everything with a pen. This is a story about ordinary people using words to fight against forgetfulness.
