Xixiangli

The novel "Xixiangli" is set in an ordinary alley in Shanghai and depicts the growth trajectory and ups and downs of a group of alley teenagers from the 1970s to the 1990s. Liangliang, Guorong, Weiguo, Jianming, Qingqing, Zhihao... They grew up in cramped wooden buildings and coal stoves, and each headed for a different future in the changing tide of the times: some were admitted to university and walked out of the alley, some took risks to escape poverty, some were addicted to the stock market and lost their entire fortune, and some died suddenly due to accidents. The novel connects the joys and sorrows of several generations in the alley from a bright perspective, including cleaning toilets, coal stoves, bathhouses, and fireworks in the New Year's Eve dinner, as well as the resumption of college entrance examinations, the trend of going abroad, stock subscription certificates, and overseas business. This is a long scroll of Shanghai civilian life, and it is also an elegy about growth, farewell and memory - those lives as tough as cattails, struggling and shining in the torrent of the times, and finally returning to dust. Only the blue bricks and black tiles of the alleys bear witness to everything silently.
