Big Sword Wang Family

During the Tongzhi period, Xuzhou martial arts master Wang Jianli - known as the "Big Sword King Zhongyi" in the world - relied on a Wansheng sword to travel all over the country. He fled to Guangzhou from the chaos of the Boxer Rebellion in Beijing, then returned to Xuzhou to recruit disciples and establish a family. He married Wang Yang, the daughter of a merchant in Hubu Mountain, and gave birth to four sons and five daughters. The eldest son Wang Guopeng was the most talented. When he was 16 years old, he was stabbed in the calf by his father. The infection succumbed to the infection and he died young. The remaining three sons each entered a different era: the second son Wang Guoxing went to Whampoa to work as a martial arts instructor, and later switched to the Communist Party; the third son Wang Guoxi became an underground party member, codenamed "Yellow Bird", and his final whereabouts are unknown; the youngest Wang Guoshan joined the army as a health corpsman at the age of twelve, went to North Korea, survived on a broken bridge, became a battalion commander from a communications corps, and stayed in the Northeast after the war, spending most of his life in construction. In his later years, Wang Guoshan returned to Xuzhou from the northeast. The old house is still there, the locust tree is still there, but the people are gone. He found his father's knife, he found his mother's ledger, and he found answers that no one will ever know - and questions that no one will ever answer. This is the story of a family being pushed forward by the times. There are no heroic epics, only choices made by ordinary people in the gaps of history. And the changes of a family happen to be a reflection of a corner of history.
