A Plea for Mercy

Yu Mengjiao’s family sold her to a wealthy old man in his sixties. The next day, she learned they had sold her to someone else instead. By sheer coincidence, a nobleman of extraordinary refinement from the capital took her into his household as a servant. Yu Mengjiao knew that clinging to this nobleman was her only way out of the mire. But this heaven-blessed favorite of fortune had no interest in women, and any woman who got close to him was as good as dead! Yu Mengjiao planned her every move. Beneath her innocent appearance lay a maze of cunning schemes. At night, she bared one fragrant shoulder and pleaded coquettishly, “My lord, please show your servant some kindness.” The woman who had once been plunged into utter despair donned the phoenix robe, took charge of the imperial harem, and set her sights high. “Little servant, come here...” When Qi Cangheng gave the order, Yu Mengjiao instead dragged her feet. She had never wanted his affection. What she wanted was a status that meant she’d never again have to depend on anyone or be sold like a piece of merchandise!
