Travels of the Cloaked Man

Chen Du traveled through time. Bad news: There is no system, no golden finger, and no one calls him a brave man. Worse news: It was raining where he woke up, his shoes were stuck in the mud, his phone was almost out of battery, the money in his pocket was worthless in this world, and the wooden sign on the roadside was crooked, as if he was deliberately trying to embarrass outsiders. All he wanted to do was find his way home. But before that, he had to figure out: where would be his next meal, where would he sleep tonight, why the hot soup was not free, why he would be in debt if he couldn't understand the language, and why the caravan boss looked at him as if he was estimating how many bags of salt he could carry. Thus, Chen Du embarked on an unseemly journey to another world. He can't draw a sword and slay a dragon, nor can he learn magic overnight. What he learned was to avoid stepping in mud pits, bargaining, drying wet socks, pretending not to understand before the hotel proprietress increased the price, and judging whether a bowl of soup was worth the debt. This world is not the same as imagined. Most of the magic is not impressive. Some people use it to keep the fire warm, some use it to find the way with street signs, and some people chant spells like reporting kitchen bills. Chen Du usually stood aside to watch the excitement, while wondering if this thing could save him a meal. He is not a hero, nor does he want to be a legend. But a casual remark, a crooked note, or a moved street sign will be remembered by people, and the more they say it, the more outrageous it becomes. But Chen Du just put on his cloak and continued walking forward. No salvation, no upgrades, no great mission. There are only traveling, eating, staying overnight, debts, misunderstandings, and little legends that were mistold but passed down in earnest many years later.
