The novel takes "love and determination" as its core and tells the affectionate story of a general, Lu Zhiheng, and a Jiangnan girl, Wen Rugu, in troubled times. The two met for the first time on a broken bridge in misty rain and made a promise to stay together, but were forced to separate due to the border war. Lu Zhiheng went to the battlefield, and after six years of life and death battles, he always wore a green shirt and never changed his original intention; Wen Ru stayed alone in a small town in the south of the Yangtze River for a fleeting year, refusing all persuasion and sticking to the agreement with a long wait. After the smoke cleared, Lu Zhiheng returned, and the two reunited on the broken bridge, fulfilling their promise across mountains, seas and years. The work uses delicate ancient style brushwork to depict the deep love that goes in both directions and remains true to one's original intention in troubled times, conveying the most steadfast look of love.
