Name Is Authority

The miracles in this world are driven by the "true name". You can command everything by calling it by its true name - fire, stone, wind, wounds, and even the human heart. But no one really "understands" real names. The mages regard strings of real names as sacred spells and memorize them by rote on their knees, but are not allowed to ask "why". The Holy Word has a monopoly on all true names, and anyone who dares to understand them is a heretic. Until Lin Shu - a disabled person who was judged to have "too weak soul resonance to recite" - discovered that this language, which was enshrined as a miracle, had grammar and loopholes, and could be disassembled, reorganized, and patched just like writing code. Others recited forty-one syllables to make a ball of fire, while he recited three words. Others memorize the real name as a Bible, but he reads it as source code. When everyone is kneeling and reciting God's words, only he is reading - the bug left by God. Name is authority. What he wants to do is to return this authority from the hands of God and the church, word by word, to everyone who is willing to learn to read and write it.
