In the near future, an abnormal phenomenon called "Day Ember" appears in the real world: every time at midnight, a very small number of people will enter a world called "The City on the Other Side" in their sleep. The City on the Other Side is neither a game nor a dream, but a projection of the ruins of the real world several years later. Those who enter are called "echoers", and they obtain identities, tasks, resources and abilities in the other side city; but death in the other side city will leave irreversible costs in reality. The male protagonist Lin Che was originally just an ordinary high school student. His father disappeared and his mother was sick all year round. When he entered the other side city for the first time, he found that he was not a new person, but was judged by the system as a "dead old file character". What's even weirder is that all the big organizations in the other side city are looking for a person codenamed "Bai Ri", and Lin Che's face is exactly the same as that person.
