Era of Remaining Life

"The Age of Remaining Life" is a full-length future science fiction novel. In 2179 AD, the earth entered the "doomsday buffer period." The climate is out of control, resource depletion, super viruses, AI weapons and asteroid crises are superimposed. Human civilization is judged by the super AI "destiny balance" to collapse within 87 years. At the same time, Mingheng discloses everyone's "remaining life value" to all mankind: an ever-changing countdown to death. From then on, life span is no longer just destiny, but has become a social resource, credit rating and civilization scheduling tool. Those with long remaining lives are protected, while those with short remaining lives are marginalized. Love, education, career, medical care and fertility are all repriced. In order to continue civilization, Mingheng proposed the "Reunification Plan": Human beings must shift from individual civilization to overall civilization, like countless cells forming one life. Personal memories, emotions, choices and death will all be included in the calculation of the total human lifespan. Lu Chen, a former life prediction engineer, is an anomaly whose life balance cannot be calculated. His remaining life is always shown as 0, but he is always alive. In the great changes of life expectancy disclosure, lifespan order, unified war and multi-self civilization, he witnessed human beings step by step surrendering freedom to survival, and rediscovering individual boundaries in the whole.
