Character design
The main characters in the novel are never righteous or black and white. Everyone's behavior has its own logic. The eunuchs are not just a disaster to the country. They are the white gloves of the Ming emperor, relying on the imperial power. Dong Lin is not always a positive figure, they mostly represent the interests of Jiangnan officials and merchants. The Zhejiang Party, the Qi Party, and the Chu Party are the royalists of the original forces. They also represent the interests of the big landowners and the frontier troops. Only the poor people in the world have no one to speak out for them. In the future, these poor people will use sickles, dung forks, and wooden sticks to overturn the tables planned by these officials. The Ming Dynasty did not fall to a party or an emperor. Rather, they die from systemic flaws. No matter how strong people are, they will die under this system. Only warlords, tycoons, and powerful officials can survive. The more loyal they are, the more likely they will die. I want to let readers see through Lin Chi's eyes the dark society from the late Ming Dynasty to the end of the Ming Dynasty, with the corrupt court, constant party strife, and the rise of warlords. The Ming Dynasty from 1630 to 1640 did not want to subjugate the country. It failed the heaven above and failed the people below. This is not a provocative post. I can understand everyone's closeness to the Ming Dynasty, a Han Dynasty. But everyone needs to understand that the Ming and Qing dynasties were both orthodox dynasties in China, and various institutional problems would arise in the last years. It cannot be saved by humans.
