Rearview Mirror

Rearview mirrors are a strange thing. It is placed directly in front of the driver's seat and to the right. It is small in size, about one-fiftieth the size of the front windshield. But when many people drive, they stare at it longer than they look at the road ahead. This is not an exaggeration. You can see such people in the underground garage of any city: the car has been turned off, but the person is still sitting in the driver's seat. He is not in a hurry to get out of the car or leave, he just sits there. Sometimes I look at the rearview mirror, sometimes I look at the steering wheel, and most of the time I don't look at anything - I just sit there, like a machine that hasn't had time to turn off completely. They are not resting. They are chewing the cud.
