In 2026, a gas explosion occurred in the old city and one person died. Merlin was the only witness. He saw the truth behind the explosion: a black human-shaped hollow, eating away at the forehead of the deceased. Officially, it was an accident. The media said it was an accident. Everyone believed it. Only he saw it. The thing saw him too. He survived and had a dark golden scale on the back of his hand. After that night, he began to have the same dream: a bronze door, a faint light coming from the crack of the door, and someone calling his name from behind the door.
