Ember Pact Era

The world died once. That was hundreds of years ago. In that era, the mages of the empire used the power of the Ember Source to build floating palaces. The emperor loudly announced the impending eternal life at the grandest celebration. The entire city sang and danced in the light of the stone - until at a certain moment, the sleeping giant beast deep in the center of the earth opened its eyes. Overnight, everything alive began to decay. Emperors, mages, soldiers, children, no one was spared. The empire did not fall in the war. It was swallowed up by the power in its own hands at its most glorious moment. After this incident, the world became a wasteland. --- Ember Era, year 472. There are still people living in the wasteland. Not much, but still. They huddled in a few safe areas anchored by deed stones. They went out to hunt, pick up ruins, and grab supplies during the day. They came back at night to count the casualties, and set off again the next day. They use the most dangerous thing in this wasteland - Ember Pact - to fight against the most dangerous monster in this wasteland. The thing itself is so ridiculous that it's almost funny: those monsters were once people.
